Adelaide in the 1960s

My father came to Australia from Spain in the late 1960’s. He emigrated with two brothers, one who stayed and raised a family, and one who travelled back and forth before eventually staying in Spain with his other three brothers. My uncle who stayed told me that after being migrant workers in Germany, they decided to apply to Australia, Canada and South Africa. Australia replied first so they came here.

This video is from Film Australia. It is a promotional film from 1966 by the Commonwealth Film Unit, advertising Adelaide and its way of life. After watching it I’d like to think they saw this film before deciding to come here. Adelaide is very wide and low and brown, it looks like a big country town but it looks to be a very nice place, much like now.
