National Geographic “Megafactories”- LEGO

LEGO – one of my all time favourite things in the world, and thanks to the wonder of youtube and people sharing things that maybe they shouldn’t, here is the National Geographic ‘Megafactories’ episode on LEGO:

What struck me after watching this was how LEGO still uses sculpture to make pieces. For the flagship of the “City” line -the Police Station (which I had in 1980 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=381_2&v=z) they make a clay police dog by hand, which later is scanned into CAD and tidied up to make a mould for injection moulding. It was quite heartwarming to see that it isn’t all just done in CAD:
